Alright lets get this fire going!!!

Man, I’m seriously rusty doing this stuff.

So what better way to fire me up than Shana herself.

To be honest I have been in a slump for a while, ever since December or so. If you will look at the right you will notice the Yui photo shoot was done back in November, that was right before my slump. Then I did the self depreciating uninspired Biri Biri shoot during my slump.

Mind you this slump only applies to scaled figures. I’m quite content taking pictures of my already too large collection of figmas.

I began to find my scaled photos a little plain. You have several interesting people doing cool stuff with theirs, using props and interesting lighting among several things.

So I decided to do something about it, I increasingly found myself not finding anything to my liking. Experimenting was nice and all but compared to my usual photos I found it to be a step down.

So I simply stopped doing the typical photo shoot for a scaled figure. I tried to force myself out of my slump such as with Biri Biri to no avail.

I find photography to be much like drawing and the like, without inspiration the results will be pretty mundane.

Which brings us to today, I will let you know this was my second attempt to shoot Shana. My lighting was pretty bad during the first, my attention wasn’t fully on taking pictures.

I like to practice what I preach, one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to figure photography is people who complain. People who complain and make excuses for bad lighting, out of focus or badly composed photos. If you realize your mistake or are not happy with the results, why not simply retake them? No one is being forced to post them somewhere right then and there.

With that said, I redid the photo shoot, tried a slightly different lighting set up and a different background. Mind you, I still think my lighting is a little inconsistent but much better than before for sure.

Then I realized that I was out my slump, what was the cause? Why of course this cutesome Max Factory Flame Haze Shana.

The one scaled figure that I wanted before I even cared for photography, before I cared for collecting figures, the figure collecting community, before I cared for blogging.

There is only one other figure I want this much. In fact if you ever see it for sale at a reasonable price totally let me know.

Thanks to a nice fellow from Tsuki-Board I got her for a price close to what I would have payed for her including shipping back when she was released.

This is my first scaled figure from Max Factory, ever since I started collecting figures they focused more on my favorite figma line.

I been wanting this figure for so long, I don’t even remember why I wanted to own it so much.

Hmmm….

Perhaps it’s Shana’s sexy navel…

…or her tiny skirt and her awesome display of zettai ryouki… or…

the fact that you can take of her skirt?

This makes Shana my second cast off figure.

I recall that way back when I first started getting to all this figure business I found the concept of cast off figure hilariously amusing.

I really like this figure, she is simple but so Shana like which all that really matters me to me.

Other than some paint transfer here and there she is in perfect condition.

I’m quite pleased with her face, I like my other Shana figure, but this one captures her confident fiery personality more.

This figure is so nice, makes me wish Max Factory laid off making figmas for a bit and concentrate of making scaled figures again.

That’s it, got nothing else to say other than this. In the end I came back in full circle, this is the same reason I don’t really write figure reviews. At the end of the day I just like to do what I like to do. Much like writing reviews elaborate photo shoots are not my thing, sure I might try it now and then but not all the time.

I will just leave you off with the remaining pictures now.

Most of my Max Factory figures have removable skirts. They were some of my very first figures so when I noticed you could separate the body and legs and the skirt fell off I just went “huh?”

Taking good pics is exactly why I haven’t done a figure review in a while. I was expecting my new camera, and now that I have it, I’m working on getting good shots. Once I have that figured out, I’ll have lots of figure reviews up.

Hmm…yeah I think the first time I saw it was on a Max Factory figure, wonder who started that trend. Although nowadays that’s pretty tame I suppose.

I look forward to that, after a year and a half of experimenting and trail and error I can say I improved and can take good enough pictures. I gotta say though, I still learn new stuff every now a then. I suppose it’s one of those never ending paths kinda of deal.

Haha I actually owned this one and sold her off…Just not that much of a Shana fan. >_<

Still she is a lovely testament to MF's quality!

I know what it feels like to be in a slump and it really does depend on how much you like the figure for me at least.

I like Shana, I find her the cutest out of all the Kugimiya Rie Tsundere lolis.

She is, even 3 years after release I think the figure itself holds up pretty well.

Indeed, I had slumps every now and then before, never though this latest one would have lasted about 6 months. Whatever I’m over it now. I do agree, every single slump has been vanquish by the acquisition of a figure that I really, really ended up liking.

Yes, yes.. I adore Figma too but I’d love for Max Factory to start making more scaled figures.

I can’t stop staring at her hair, it’s been done so nicely. Congratulations on getting her!

Mm.. I can very much relate to plain scaled figure photography thing. I’ve tried several times to do something a bit more elaborate but usually end up not happy with the results so I’ll just head back to doing what I feel more comfortable with and enjoy more.

Before I was a little indifferent but now that I have a Max Factory figure in my possession my indifference went completely away. If they do make another scaled figure I do hope it’s not a Miku/BRS/Fate anything though.

I like her hair, you can end up with pretty cool stuff like this.

Yeah, in the end it’s not like I do this for anyone other myself, as long as I enjoy myself I’m happy.

I was in a photo slump myself several months ago but I got over it by forcing myself to take a figure photo every day. While that only lasted about a month, it definitely got me over the slump because I ended up constantly thinking about photography in my free time, sleeping, toilet time, etc
But yes, Max Factory figures! My current fav scaled is also a MF (VN02) and the few they and Native come out with these days are nice (although sometimes QC seems to be an issue like with swimsuit Clalaclan). Shana looks like a nice figure for an oldie, love that hair and the cute face.

Forcing anything doesn’t work for me, I tried it but to no avail. I’m content though that next time I will know it’s just a matter of time, of waiting for the right figure.

I really have no idea how MF compares nowadays, actually now that I think about it. My scale is biased since I compare everything to Alter since I own way more of them when it comes to scaled figures.

Yes, I love it. I really can’t pin point why I do so I will say I love all of her.

  5. Duqs says:

Been trying to remove a variety of stuff from my figmas. So far Miku’s skirt, Saber’s (regular) chest armor, are among the removable things. I guess you can count in Miku from the World is mine scaled figure as ‘removable’ Tempted to tear out the soft plastic from the BRS figma to make it look like the Black Blade version, but the backpart doesnt seem to b removable =|

  6. Fabienne says:

Oh the cute Shana, she looks also good without skirt ^^,when was her release date again? I also received a figure I wanted for a long long time this week, Melissa Seraphy from 2006, I was so damn happy ;).

I always like the different backgrounds you are using for your figures or figmas.

Well I started photography as my main hobby before I found interest in figures, nowadays I nearly only take pictures of my figures because I love to do it and it’s way easier than finding bugs and lizzards in the nature ;D I couldn’t imagine to grew tired of it.

    • Miette-chan says:

I believe Shana is from 2007.

You are also perv, liking Shana without her skirt. Hmm…I like how she looks silly as it is.

I try to not repeat them, although some like the cloud background are just so useful.

I took photography so I could take pictures of figures, can’t think of doing anything else besides taking pictures of cute 3D girlies.

  7. radiant says:

Nice shots! The yellow background goes well with Shana’s hair. I think I like your other Shana figure more, probably because it’s cute. 🙂

Good luck obtaining Makoto. I do know someone who has one, but I’m not sure if he’d be willing to sell it. (he might, you never know!)

I found cast-offs hilarious too. It seems so pointless, but at the same time, costs them nothing to include this feature. Just simply not glue the torso and hip together, and bingo, cast-off. I find it somewhat annoying though, because you have to cast it off to remove the plastic sheet in between, and sometimes they might fall off. I’m not much for displaying a figure in her underwear. It makes no sense to me.

    • Miette-chan says:

At first I tried green as complement to red but that was no good. Acting on my friend’s suggestion to use a warm color seems to have worked out.

You know, I have yet to see Makoto for sale once, never seen it on a private sale, MFC sale, or Mandrake. Only on ebay but who knows if that one is legit.

I find silly since usually only the skirt can be taken off leaving the figure to look funnily dressed.
